On the 23rd of September 2024, Ridley officially turned a hundred and thirty-five years old. The following Friday, all Ridley students, all the way from JK to Grade 12, along with faculty and staff members, gathered together to celebrate!
To start the birthday party, everyone came together for the family photo, spelling out this year’s theme “HOPE.” All the students showed their house spirit, dressed in their house attire. It was truly magical to see all of the Ridley community side by side as various colours filled the field.
Next on the agenda, all students cheered for their fellow young Ridleans, as Mr. Tredway introduced us to the classes of ‘35, ‘36, ‘37, and ‘38. Our Lower Schoolers proudly marched onto the field, led by their teachers, with big smiles, showcasing their Ridley spirit and enthusiasm. We were also joined by the Niagara River Lions’ beloved mascot, Dunkin! Along with Hank, Dunkin helped elevate spirits by participating in Freeze Dance with the students. Our students got the chance to show their exceptional moves on the dance floor to upbeat, trendy music as they engaged in friendly competition.
After an incredible start to the event, all students headed off to their respective cohorts, led by our dedicated faculty members, for an afternoon full of fun activities. There were 40 groups in total, all comprising of students aged 5 to 18. This was an opportunity for our Upper Schoolers to act as older brothers and sisters to our younger students, giving them friendly advice, and a known face to high-five in the hallways — as mentioned by Mr. Kidd during his opening address. Some Upper School students got the chance to experience the celebration from a whole new perspective, as they imparted some of the wisdom they would’ve received from their seniors during the birthday parties held during their lower school years.
There were many diverse activities, ranging from charades to obstacle courses, as well as entertaining challenges! Our teachers were a major part of the afternoon, engaging with the students and also participating in some of the events. It was an awesome experience to watch our students and teachers work as a team, giving them a chance to bond along the way! Each team participated in a total of four activities, and by the end of the afternoon, it was safe to say everyone had gotten to know someone new and formed a new meaningful connection.
For the perfect end to the sunny afternoon, all students enjoyed the treat served in the Great Hall, concluding their day with delicious cupcakes. Kudos to the chefs on their brilliant choice of school-themed black and orange sprinkles!
The afternoon — in more ways than one — showcased the Ridley spirit, one that connects the entire Ridley community. The Ridley community is filled with students from over sixty nationalities, compassionate and supportive faculty and staff. Our community is a tight-knit community that thrives, grows, and learns together. Here’s to many more years of transforming lives!
Happy 135th Birthday, Ridley!
